About This Exercise

A controlled standing march drill that trains active hip flexion and trunk control for sprinting, cutting, and field-sport acceleration patterns.

1Setup

Stand tall with ribs stacked over the pelvis and feet hip-width apart. Brace lightly and keep the support foot rooted before lifting the opposite knee.

2Execution

Drive one knee upward toward hip height without leaning back. Pause briefly with the foot dorsiflexed, lower under control, and repeat for the prescribed reps before switching sides.

Pro Tips

  • Lift from the hip rather than swinging the leg
  • Keep the torso tall as the knee rises
  • Move crisply but stay controlled through the lowering phase
  • Use the drill to rehearse knee-drive mechanics without turning it into conditioning
