FAQ
Do any workout apps use wearable data to adjust training?
Not in this comparison, and that includes ours. Across all eight apps, every readiness signal is either self-reported (sleep, stress, soreness, RPE/RIR ratings) or inferred from your logged sets. None documents training that is driven by HRV, sleep-stage or continuous wearable data — so treat that claim sceptically wherever you see it.
Is Forte HRV-based?
No. Forte calculates readiness from what you report each day — sleep, stress, soreness and nutrition. It can read your resting heart rate from Apple Health, but that personalises your heart-rate zones rather than your readiness score, and Android Health Connect support is not shipped yet.
What actually makes Forte different, then?
Timing. Most apps adjust between sessions or between weeks. Forte also adjusts inside the session: mid-workout you can stop there, drop sets, drop loads or push through, and each option previews exactly what it changes before you pick it.
What is the best free option?
Boostcamp for running proven named programs free, or Hevy for the best free logging and community. Neither adjusts to readiness, which is the trade-off for free.
